Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) Tutoring

This page relates to electrical workers with overseas qualifications (issued outside of Australia or New Zealand), who aim to perform electrical work in Victoria.

The Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) skills assessments are for recognition of prior learning. Passing these assessments is a requirement of obtaining a Victorian Electrician's Licence.

TTA offers tutoring for those preparing to sit their TRA skills assessments as a General Class Electrician.

TTA also offers tutoring for those preparing to sit their LEA exams. See our LEA overview page for tutoring to prepare for the LET and LEP assessments.

Procedure to Obtain a Victorian Electrician's Licence (A Grade)

To perform electrical work in Victoria, you must be issued a licence by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV). To be issued this licence, you must follow the following procedure:

  • Obtain a Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) through TRA. This requires passing a skills assessment through a TRA approved registered training organisation (RTO)
  • Obtain a Supervised Worker's licence (L Licence) through ESV
  • Complete the Minimum Australian Context Gap Training, course code: 10809NAT (formerly: 10145NAT)
  • Pass the following Licenced Electrician's Assessment (LEA) exams: Licensed Electrician's Theory (LET) and Licensed Electrician's Practice (LEP)
  • Work under supervision for more than 12 months
